A Pair of New Book Covers from The Digital Press

I almost made this a two for Tuesday (or Thursday), but decided to mix things up a bit and share two new book covers on a Wednesday.

The first is for Ismail Gaspirali Muslims of Darürrahat translated by Çiğdem Pala Mull and edited by Sharon Carson. It will be out around November 1. The cover design is by Lucy Ganje. Lucy managed to produce a cove that avoided trading in Orientalist imagery while still preserving a sense of subtlety and beauty. All I need to do to get this book out the door is finish the spine!

The next book cover is ready to go. It’s for Chris Price’s Big Pandemic on the Prairie: The Spanish Flue in North Dakota. The front cover is by Chloe Piekkola and I finished the design. The goal was to produce something visually arresting and easily legible, but also more textured than the standard array of black-and-white photographs. I think Chloe was successful with this and my additions to the back cover did nothing to detract from her overall design. This book is out on October 15th.

Just a short blog post this week, but I’m off to start a writing Wednesday, and I am excited to share some progress with you tomorrow.
