Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit

I’ve just seen the opening of the new BBC series Robin Hood. It’s ok but not brilliant – then again first episodes of series rarely are. Keith Allen plays… Keith Allen really, but he’s a good fit for the Sheriff of Nottingham and shows once again that any modern telling of Robin Hood revolves around this role.

Allan a Dale looks disconcertingly like Jake Shears. I kept expecting him to announce he didn’t feel like dancin’. As for Robin he’s certainly the prettiest member of the cast. Hopefully later episodes will give him a reason to act. And I doubt Jack Straw would be fond of Marian.

The real success of the season so far has been Mitchell and Webb, who were great on radio and have transferred well to TV. Robin Hood isn’t a patch on the action adventure that is Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit.
