Atchoo!
I’ve been slightly overwhelmed this week. It’s the first week of term which brings the joy of paperwork and unexpected meetings. Additional problems including what looks to be a cold are also taking their toll. One of the symptoms of the cold includes hallucinations. I thought I read that England beat Australia in quarter-finals of the World Cup. The only way I could see that happening would be if the Australian team forgot to turn up.
Someone who’s has a better week is Martin Rundkvist, who has some terrific photos of excavating a sword at Djurham and a follow-up post. People interested in meta-archaeology will also like his post on the internet reaction. I think he raises an interesting point that metal detectors are conspicuously absent from the popular perception of archaeological tools. I can’t recall anyone teaching students how to use one at university, but maybe I went to the wrong universities. I’m not going to comment on the sword itself. It’s from the 16th century and I know nothing at all about Swedish military history apart from the fact they were somehow involved in Waterloo.
A catch-up of the past week on archaeology blogs can be found at Amalgamated Friday 30 at About.com.
