Babi – the fierce, bloodthirsty, highly sexual baboon-god

Babi – the fierce, bloodthirsty baboon-god – had been present since the Old Kingdom. His powerful reputation was feared and respected in equal measure, especially among the pharaohs as he embodied their ambition of supernatural aggression. He was thought to be able to open up the sky with his mighty phallus and provide protection from danger by controlling darkness, turbulent waters and even snakes! 

The ancient Egyptians were known to revere the power and libido of the baboon, worshiping Babi; the god of virility and judging souls, He was commonly portrayed with an erection, representing his immense strength and sexuality.

He could also be seen as a blessing during a person’s journey into the afterlife, granting them success in sexual intercourse through forming an identification with Babi himself. In fact, Babi’s phallus was used as a mast on the Underworld ferryboat – illustrating his importance during this transition into another world. Such virility symbolises Babi’s immense strength and terrifying power as mortals needed to seek out protection spells (fatally consuming entrails on sight without reservation or mercy) against him during such ceremonies held in The Hall of Two Truths. 

Babi’s power is so great that it surpasses beyond animalistic terms; likened to SETH himself and eventually transcending into becoming Osiris’ eldest son! It is clear that those who invoke this baboon-god hold vast strength over those who stand weak against him. Evidencing their fundamental respect for Babi’s potency, generations knelt before him with fear and admiration in equal measure.
