Book By Its Cover: Robert Kyle Memoirs

This past weekend I’ve been working to finish THREE books that are in the advanced stages of production and should appear this fall.

This means not only reviewing the final versions of typeset texts, but also finalizing the cover designs. One of the books that has been a bit of a challenge for me is a memoir that I’m publishing of a prominent UND alumnus and a Mayo Clinic research physician.

It’s a rather conservative book that is largely a story of the man’s life and a litany of his accomplishments as a researcher. The nature of the book made it a bit tricky to come up with a cover that was both sufficiently conservative to complement the content, but at the same time humanizing enough to mark the book as a memoir.

This is what I came up with:

Kyle Cover Draft

It’ll also be the first book that I publish in hardback form so I’ve left considerable rooms for margins, bleeds, and “folds” around the edges of the cover image.
