Carnivals Ahoy!

Bora surprised me this morning when he posted the 33rd Skeptic’s Circle. With it coming from the USA I wasn’t expecting it till this afternoon. If you’re interested in all things sceptical then it’s worth visiting. It’s also an excellent example of the carnival format which I’ll find useful. I can see on the horizon that I’ll have to explain what a blog Carnival is to my boss. How difficult is this likely to be? I’m not sure. Next week’s task will be explaining what a blog is. He’s not hostile to them. On the contrary he’s enthusiastic, but he’s simply unfamiliar with the format. He’s bound to have lots of perceptive questions and I don’t have all the answers. If he asks “Why catblogging?” then I’m stuck.

Another accessible and interesting example of the blog carnival is the BritBlog roundup hosted by Tim Worstall. I was going to link to his explanation of the Charles Clarke affair (that’s affair as in mismanagement not affair as in affair – that’s Prescott) but alas he’s been away. I should have mentioned this week’s BritBlog roundup sooner, but I’ve been stumped for words as to how to describe it. He’s linked to the Hadrian’s Wall photos and I’ve been in shock. I’d didn’t self-nominate them so someone else obviously thought they were worthy of a wider audience. I got a U for Art. To put that in perspective for Americans, you have letter grades. A is the top grade followed by B,C,D and E. If you get to F then you’ve failed, so you can see where U is*. It’s a bit of a surprise.

The only thing I did worse in was Javelin in PE – though I think the teacher made far too much fuss about that. In ancient Greece hitting someone down the field would have been considered a Good Thing.

*Actually under the GCSE system F and G are still passes and then I think it might be N for Nearly Passed and then Fail. And below that U for Ungraded or “What tree was so evil that it had to die for this?”
