Current fixes
Unless you want to know details about what’s installed on the weblog, then this entry probably isn’t exciting. The only major bit of news is that the search function is working a lot better. The problem I’ve had with the search function is that it won’t search the imported entries. One solution would be to use Google instead, which could also search comments. Unfortunately Google isn’t indexing the whole site either. This is why the Archives are listed on the right at the moment. Usually I don’t use them because if I could remember which month something was written in then I would probably remember what the page I was looking for said anyway. I’ve tried the Search Everything plug-in, which looks very good. Alas it doesn’t search much on this site as it still relies on the broken search engine. Instead I’m using Semiologic’s Search Reloaded, which doesn’t play with Search Everything and doesn’t seem to search comments. On the other hand it is better than the default search engine and much better than the way the engine is working on this site.
The other plug-ins are:
Add Your Own Headers, I’ll use this to embed code for the TypeGreek function.
Akismet, because for every human comment the site at wordpress.com was receiving 40 adverts.
All in One SEO Pack, which makes the post title come first in the title bar. More useful than having Clioaudio | Post title.
Breukie’s Links Widget for WordPress, so I can rotate links from the expanding Links page onto the front page.
Feedsmith, to handle the feeds.
FlickrRSS. This handles the suqare images at the top of the page. It’s currently pulling the nine most recent photos posted to the Chiron group which hosts Creative Commons licenced photos related to Classical sites.
Google Sitemap Generator, which I would hope will fix the lack of visibility in Google problem.Google Maps Plugin. Once this is set up, it’s a very easy way to drop GoogleMaps into posts. Tie this to a database and RunPHP and you could have a very powerful interface.
Kimili Flash Embed, for adding Shockwave Flash animations when I get around to it.
PodPress, for integrating the MP3 files.
Postalcious. I saw this in action on Orbis Quintus and it looked better than the automatic 24hr updates I was using.
Random Posts Widget, just so I can look back and ask I wrote that?WP-Stats, which allows me to read my stats the same way I did at WordPress.com.
WP-Footnotes, which allows me to insert footnotes ((like this one)) by enclosing the footnote text in double brackets. It automatically numbers the note and adds a link to return the reader to the noted text.
Ultimate Tag Warrior, for adding the tags at the bottom.
I’m also using Feedflares, though they’ll only show up on the new entries. They’re the links in the orange box at the foot of each post.
I’m thinking of adding the APOD widget, but as I’m in a European Time Zone I’m wary of that because APOD is updated on North American Time.
