Focus gets it right

Focus Magazine may have caused me to sigh when it comes to archaeology, but their coverage of creationism seems to be spot on. This month they have a two page spread on the spread of Intelligent Design Creationism in America with a small box on Britain. A couple of quotes should suffice.

From the main news story:

“The overwhelming view of the scientific community is that evolution, as first described by Charles Darwin, is the route by how so many species came into existence.”

And from the comment bar by the side:

“If you question qualified scientists, you will find there is no dissent about the fundamental tenet of evolution. People may quibble over some of the details, but not the basic facts”

There is a section where someone from the Discovery Institute gets to spout out creationism being science, and in the interests of balance the same story points out that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming and even religious figures are willing to accept it.

It also points to an edition of Horizon on creationism in the New Year. Given their treatment of Hancock’s imaginative ideas* on a previous show, it’s unlikely that the creationists or the evolutionists will be allowed to state claims without backing it up with data.
