Friday Slaughter: Boulez/Chéreau – The Ride of the Valkyries

Sure, atheists can claim to have read the Nibelungenlied, but have they really understood it? What if they’re wrong? No Valhalla for them. No eternal battle, feasting and quaffing of the finest mead (or suitable no-alcohol option for those of us who react badly to alcohol).

It sounds like they’re singing against the music to begin with to my ears, but it gets much better. Alas I’ve heard the florid strings in other dramas which has a lingering effect. I can’t help wondering when the wabbit is going to appear.
