Friday Varia and Quick Hits

It’s feels like winter may be almost over here in North Dakotaland (but everyone know that this is not the case) and the temperatures are set to soar into the mid-40s today! If it wasn’t for puddles the size of small lakes and ice that lingered in the shade, I would even consider running outside.

The weekend will likely feel more seasonally appropriate which will be conducive to wrapping up any number of projects due at the end of this month. I hope to also catch my Mighty Spiders play the Bilikens of St. Louis this evening on ESPN2 as we work to get ourselves off the bubble (and feel lucky to be spared having to watch the T20 match between Australia and New Zealand, which has been disappointing, but not in the way that this Test result between India and England was disappointing).

I hope your weekend is restorative, productive, and fun, and maybe these quick hits and varia can play a role:

• The Making of a Byzantine Monastic Landscape.

• More on weaponizing rhetoric and race in Classics.

• Cathartic History Conference.

• Looking at a looted inscription.

• Archaeology as Social Activism.

• NDSU Press 2021 Poetry of the Plains & Prairies Award.

• Brain noise feels good.

• Voices of Delaware Black History: Doris E. Lambert.

• Ferlinghetti in North Dakota.

• A collaborative approach to public history and race.

• The new Alpinist.

• What I’m reading: Renee Gladman, Morelia.

• What I m am listening to: Miles Davis, Star People.
