Friday Varia and Quick Hits
It’s finally Friday in another long week. While the weather feels like early summer here in North Dakotaland, the national climate feels a bit too much like late fall when the anxiety of another long, cold winter is starting to take hold.
That being said, with the return of boxing over the last few days, continued efforts for change in NASCAR, and ongoing national conversations about racism, the police, and the role of violence in our society, maybe there’s more spring in the air than I can sense right now.
Whatever the season, here are some quick hits and varia:
If you’re an academic, it’s really worth reading around the hashtag #BlackInTheIvory.
I also found Jasmine Roberts’ recent essay a significant read.
More: Fight or die by Pria Jackson.
Lucia Nixon on Comfort Classics. (NB: I’m not a huge fan of this project’s effort to pose Classics as a kind of escape from the anxieties we’re feeling in the world, but Lucia Nixon’s work is interesting enough to link to this interview.)
What I’m reading: L.P. Devine, Decomposed: The Political Ecology of Music (2019).
What I’m listening to: Kassa Overall, Shades of Flu.

Traditional SubWoofer Position

Bracing for Storms
