Friday Varia and Quick Hits

While springtime is finally here in North Dakotaland with temps soaring into the 60s today, we’re thinking of friends and family in Australia where they’re struggling with the flooding andthe destruction wroughtby Cyclone Debbie.

Wish nice weather here, though, this weekend will hopefully feature cookouts, drinks on the front porch, and leisurely walks with our two pooches as well as books, papers, and whatever else trouble I can get into.

For now, though, enjoy some quick hits and varia:

• Jon Frey’s work at Michigan State is really cool.

• A really nice little essay on Greeking while being Greek.

• Do you get to keep what you find?

• Really old dogs.

• Culture in the Crossfire.

• This might be the best thing I’ve written on open publishing.

• Fascism and Medicine in Interwar France and Vichy.

• Something on the gig economy.

• Reimagining Arizona State’s library.

• The Ballad of Holland House.

• Hanging skyscrapers from space.

• Touring Myanmar.

• What I’m reading: Wladimir Velminski, Homo Sovieticus: Brain Waves, Mind Control, and Telepathic Destiny. (MIT 2017).

• What I’m listening to: The Original Gerry Mulligan – Chet Baker Quartet, Complete Recordings.
