Friday Varia and Quick Hits
It’s supposed to be a balmy day here in North Dakotaland with temperatures in the mid-30s. This is almost 20 degrees above normal and that means most of the world is a sheet of ice in the morning and pockmarked with slushy puddles in the afternoon.
This weekend will be filled with cricket at the T20 World Cup continues in India and Sri Lanka, racing, as the Daytona 500 roars through south Florida, and reading (with maybe an eye on Sixer Tyrese Maxey’s first All-Star game start). Otherwise, it’s books, grading, and maybe even a bit of writing. I’ll probably try to catch the Efe Ajagba vs. Charles Martin fight at some point.
If you’ve missed my blog this week, do check out our New Book Day! This week, the Digital Press and North Dakota Quarterly released Miloš K. Ilić’s debut novel, The Children of Neverville translated by John K. Cox. If you haven’t had a chance to check it out download a free copy here.
Check out this week’s very small gaggle of quick hits and varia:
Stop Meeting Students Where They Are (h/t to Nudell’s Noodlings).
See also Reading Boring Books.
What I’m reading: Assaf Nativ and Gavin Lucas, Archaeologies: In the Shadow of Antiquity or For Other Modes of Archaeological Worldmaking (2025)
