Friday Varia and Quick Hits

Feb 23, 2024

Temperatures this weekend will soar nearly 50 allowing us once again to enjoy “lakeside living” as melting ice turns our backyard into a murky brown pool. It’s a momentary inconvenience, of course, and an opportunity for me to play amateur hydrologist as we try to position pumps to keep pace with the melting ice.

The weekend is a slow one for sports. My “evolving” Sixers team faces a daunting task tonight against the Cavaliers and then face the Bucks on Sunday afternoon. I’d watch the fourth England-India test, but it’s not really on at a practical time. The NASCAR guys are in Atlanta for another super speedway race. This feels like something that will happen between yellow flags. There is some decent boxing, but from Japan so at 4 am on Saturday. That’s a prime work time for me. The DAZN card from Orlando intrigues me, but only because Edgar Berlanga remains an intriguing guy. Lacking other live sports that grip me, I might put this on after dinner on Saturday.

After a bunch of hectic weekends in a row, I have time this weekend to catch my breath. The next issue of NDQ is due to our publisher by next Friday, and I’ll wrap that up in the next few days. I have a nice stack of books to read, a typeset manuscript that needs tidying, a manuscript to review, and an article proposal to sort out.

I also need to restock some quick hits and varia:
