Friday Varia and Quick Hits

It is the last Friday of the semester and I’m wrapping up odds and ends as we careen toward the end of the 2022. The weather has turned cold enough that my truck didn’t want to start and I’m going to have to switch to winter weight diesel. The snow in our backyard is likely going to be there for the next 5 months. And, our negotiations with our big yellow dog about when it is too cold to be outside have become more intense. It is winter.

Fortunately, there is plenty to keep us warm this time of year. Not only do I have a stack of books and grading, but there’s the cricket in Australia to remind us of summer, the championship rounds of the NFL season, the second quarter of the NBA schedule, and the last flurry of boxing before the holidays. In fact, the fights scheduled for the next 5 days are a fight fans delight with prospects and old pros, champions and chumps, and contenders and pretenders across six major cards. I will be dining on these contests for weeks.
