Friday Varia and Quick Hits
It’s finally Friday in what might be the longest week of this rather new year. I’m ready to hunker down this weekend with a book, a couple dogs, the Superb Owl, and an icy cold beer or two. To make that just a bit easier, we’re under a blizzard warning, once again, and UND is closed until at least 10 am today. I feel for my colleagues who teach later today. I can’t imagine students dragging themselves to a Friday afternoon class after watching the wind and snow swirl for the entire morning.
The big news in our household this weekend was that the Sixers finally moved on from the Ben Simmons distraction and, so far, James Harden has not ask to be traded. The Australian cricketers are facing Sri Lanka in a T20 series before they depart for Pakistan next month. And the count down to the Daytona 500 festivities is well and truly underway.
All I need to do now is shake off the last of The Omicron gunk and set out a short list of quick hits and varia:
Two Open Access volumes on islands:
First Review of Visualizing Votive Practice: “The co-authored book is a ground-breaking tour de force.”
New Book Series: On Seeing.
What I’m reading: Erin L. Thompson, Smashing Statues: The Rise and Fall of America’s Public Monuments. 2022.
What I’m listening to: Kahil El Zabar Quartet, A Time for Healing.
