Internet Polls

A couple of questions on behalf of Phil Mills. 1) Is there a technical term for the standard internt polls where anyone can vote for an outcome? 2) Is there somewhere a summary of their shortcomings (a bit more updated than the telephone phone in How to Lie with Statistics?)
