Isn’t Radio 4 Wonderful?
I have a recurring nightmare that I’m turning into my Da. I’ll wake up with a craving to create staved tankards. Nevertheless Radio 4 is a truly wonderful thing. Radio 4 is an example of the BBC doing what the BBC does best. You can listen to it live over the net which is fine, but the BBC worked out a long while ago that if the programme is digital then there’s no reason to tune in at exactly the right time. The past week’s programmes can be found on the site in handy categories. There’s the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in the Comedy section (much better than the film).
There are also sections for History and Science with programmes available from the past week in RealPlayer and some in .mp3 format. Additionally these sections have archives enabling you to catch past history and science programmes like Prehistoric Manual
One of the slightly jarring things is that the programmes aren’t perfectly cut, so occasionally there’ll be a weather forecast added to the end which you don’t notice until it stops half way through. This tends to leave me with a sense of disappointment that I’ll never know what the weather forecast for Northern Ireland was last week. I know I could look up the meteorlogical records, but that’s not the same as the prediction.
Anyhow if I haven’t already emailed you with the address, the must hear programme on the site is Ross Noble Goes Global. If you don’t find the programme on Egypt hilarious then you have no sense of humour, or at least a different one to me. —–
