The English term – quarter, is linked to Latin ‘quartus’, meaning “fourth.” We can venture further back in time and use the Armenian term ‘qarord’(քառորդ) to mean ‘fourth’, as well as use the Latin quattuor ‘four’ as reference to extract an older etymological root of Armenian ‘ktor’ ( կտոր), meaning “part”, which the English term – ‘quarters’- meaning “a piece or part of space’ is derived. Arba means four!
