Local Landfill, Global Garbage: A Talk in Korea

As readers of this blog know, I head to South Korea to give a talk next week. I don’t think that I’ve shared the complete text of the talk and the images, but just in case next week is more hectic than I anticipate, I want to provide a link today:

I’m moderately satisfied with this paper. I wish I had been a bit more deliberate in how I connected waste to capitalism and consumption throughout and showed how by exposing landfills we’re not simply making the instruments of power visible, but also laying bare the wasteful character of the capitalist regime. In other words, exposing landfills makes obvious the limits of capitalism’s efficiency by revealing the wasteful byproduct of consumerism.

In any event, I think that this paper isn’t bad and will satisfy the audience.
