Metadata Monday: Blogs are BACK, Baby!
Years ago, when I first started blogging, I would report on the viewer numbers on my blog on Mondays. For alliterative purposes, I called these little reports “Metadata Monday” even if this is stretching the concept of metadata!
This year has been a solid year for the ole blog. I wrote 129,500 words over 239 post with an average of 542 words per post. This is about the same number of posts that I’ve made over the last 15 years when I’ve averaged about 244 post per year. The word count is a lower though. I’ve tended to average around 150,000 words per year and this year it’s unlikely that I’ll crack 140k.
Part of the lower word count is because I’ve started to write in my notebook more and this has probably (?) absorbed some of my writing practice that might have made its way to the ole blog. I am thinking about doing a review of my notebook writing in the new year and I can test this hypothesis. I also started the “Music Monday” posts to share my love of music and those tend to be shorter and interspersed with videos.
In terms of visits and views, this year was better than any year since 2015 and looked a lot like 2012 in terms of total views. The views per visitor has remained fairly stable since 2016 or so. In other words, there were more visitor who more or less behaved the same way. Maybe this means BLOGS ARE BACK, BABY!!
My ten most popular posts are as follows. This is based on a minimum number of views and then among those, the views per day. Despite this effort, there is a bit of distortion from the most recent posts (and the top ranked post in views per day is a result of this, but this post is also well on its way to being a top ranked post in total views).
