Music Monday: Jesus Children, Want me to Stay, and Wolfbane

I’ve been listening to some pretty random stuff lately as I do layout and some deadline writing. 

First, I’ve been struggling with Stevie Wonder’s iconic Innervisions which turned 50 years old this week. The music is GREAT, but I’m finding most of the recording available on streaming (or even my early 2000s CD) to be almost unbearably bright. To be clear, my stereo tends to be pretty merciless when it comes to bright recordings. I think it partly has to do with my room and partly has to do with my speakers which like many high sensitivity speakers have little patience for recordings with edgy treble. (I was prepared to make some kind of joke about “Too High,” but then though better of it.)

In any event, it’s a fantastic album, and “Jesus Children of America” is one of my all time favorite songs:

I’m also enjoying some recent-ish David Murray with his Brave New World Trio featuring Brad Jones on bass and Hamid Drake on drums: Seriana Promethea.

The entire album is pretty fun, but their cover of Sly and the Family Stone’s “If You Want Me To Stay” is particularly fun:
