Music Monday: Piano and Guitar

Spring break involved a bit less music than I had hoped, but still some wonderful sounds. 

For example, I’ve been really enjoying some solo piano from Stanley Cowell, particularly his Musa: Ancestral Streams (1974)


Cowell’s Equipoise (1978) features Cecil McBee on bass and Roy Haynes on drums:


This drove me somehow to Jaki Byard’s Sunshine of my Soul from 1967 with David Izenzon on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. I never cease to be amazed by the range of Jaki Byard. 


I’ve enjoyed the latest Sun Ra release, Uncharted Passages (2025). This version of “Sometimes I Feel like a Motherless Child” is classic Sun Ra:


Along similar lines, the new release of an Emily Remler recording from Las Vegas in 1984 and 1988 called Cookin’ at the Queens. Check out this version of “Moanin’” which
