Music Monday: Some New Stuff, Some Old Stuff, and Some Random Stuff
I’ve been a bit restless in my listening lately and this has left my flipping casually between artists and tracks trying to find something (but also not being entirely sure what I want to find).
In any event, I’ve been slowly enjoying Isaiah Collier’s brand new live album: The Ancients with William Parker and William Hooker. It’s not on Youtube, but you can listen to a track below.
For some reason, it got me thinking about Kidd Jordan. Maybe it’s just the bluesy sound of Collier’s sax or his penchant for improvisation. I’ve long considered Palm of Soul (with Hamid Drake and William Parker) and appropriate sound track for the Anthropocene.

And enjoying Cassandra Wilson’s Traveling Miles (1998) especially her version of “Time After Time”. It’s a nice reminder how great a song this is.
I’ve added a couple new songs to my work out playlist including this one (which feels appropriate):
Finally, I’m looking forward to listening to Ambrose Akinmusire, honey from a winter stone (2025) with its seasonally appropriate title and deep grooves:
