Music Monday: Traveling Music

I’m traveling and all discombobulated these days and my listening routine is not very satisfying. As a result, I don’t quite have the bandwidth to do a proper music Monday post.

Instead, I’ll offer you a glimpse of my traveling music. 

On my longish domestic flight, I enjoyed the Miles Davis Columbia Box Set, The Cellar Door Sessions 1970. It’s funky, rhythmic, abstract, and angular. It’s great music to fly to and it added the kind of crackling intensity to Haruki Murakami’s Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World(1991).

I’ve also come to really dig Jeff Parker ETA IVtet’s muscular The Way Out of Easy (2024).

Finally, I’m keep things local-ish with the Minneapolis Quintet, The Bad Plus’s latest album Complex Emotions (2024). Chris Speed’s tenor sax has a tone that I really appreciate and it has motivated me to check out some of more of his stuff.
