Just a quick post this Monday, since I’m traveling.

I’ve been listening to some Charles Tyler, who seems to speak a language that I find compelling and that feels like it resonates with our age. His 1967 album, Eastern Man Alone, is simply brilliant:

I’ve also been reflecting on the passing of John Mayall. I’ve always had a soft spot for his early albums which I suppose I discovered in college or graduate school when I was trying to understand the roots of British blues. In particular, I’ve had a soft spot for his 1967 album, A Hard Road, probably because I have a soft spot for Peter Green:

Nathan Meyer, a longtime reader of this blog and colleague, recommended a crazy spoken word piece by the Terry Callier. While there’s all kinds of pseudoarchaeological goodness to this, it got me to listen to his 1968 album, The New Folk Soundsof Terry Callier. It’s a good album that continues to grow on me. In fact, every time I listen to it, I like it more, and I’m keen to spend some time with his early 1970s output. Here’s the New Folk Sounds of Terry Callier and here’s my favorite track from it, “It’s About Time”:

Finally, it’d be remiss mention Ayumi Ishito’s Wondercult Club. I’ve been listening to it pretty consistently since it came out on Friday. It is well worth your time.

Here’s a link to the album and here are two cuts from it:
