Photographs

Readers of this blog know that I’ve been thinking about photographs lately. I have to say, though, that I usually don’t think very much about photography.

But that has started to change. Last year, I bought a nice camera and a nice lens. Then, I realized that maybe I did not by the right lens. It’s not a bad lens. In fact, it’s a very good lens, but there’s something about it that is maybe too good.

Anyway, I was going to by another lens this spring to reward myself for surviving another academic year and to get a more compact lens for my camera. Instead for various Richard Rothaus-related reasons, I ended up with two vintage SMC Takumar lenses from the late 1960s or early 1970s for my fancy reflectorless camera. One thing that these lenses somehow do is help me see light better. Now, the downside is that they’re not autofocus. I also have to set the aperture manually and then adjust the shutter speed. Then, mostly I hope for the best. Sometimes, I manage to get something in focus and get the exposure right. Often I don’t.

I’ve started to take my camera with me on my walks and photograph things that interest me. Here are some of my photos. All but the first two photos are with vintage lenses.
