Probably not Atlantis

Here’s a photo of some pottery on Santorini, ancient Thera. It’s one of the locations proposed as the site of Atlantis. A slight variation is that the Palaces of Knossos and the Minoan civilisation on Crete were Atlantis. Either way, so the tale goes, the civilisation collapsed after Thera erupted in the 1600s BC. A lot of archaeologists still think today that Atlantis was a memory of the fall of the Minoan civilisation. There are a lot of correlations in the descriptions of the architecture. However it doesn’t work as a viable location for Atlantis. The eruption left an ash layer which can be seen in archaeological deposits and later Minoan palaces are found built in the strata above this ash. In fact the Minoans continued for at least another century. At it stands it’s simply not feasible that the collapse of the Minoans was the result of Thera erupting, though Dienekes may beg to differ.
