Echosphere has Star Trek inspirational posters for those of you who don’t want to Despair. Most of them are much funnier than my own effort above (made with a photo from Latca).
I’ve had these in my bookmarks folder for a while and forgotten to post them. The Uncyclopedia has entries on the Theory of History and Ancient Egypt. The latter tells you everything you need to know about Stonehenge.
I also like to think I’m down wiv ver kidz, but sometimes I need a little help, so I turn to the Urban Dictionary. It has definitions for all sorts of things that I haven’t come across in my sheltered life. It also has an entry on archaeology which says a lot about Exeter.
I don’t know if this next link is very funny or very depressing. It’s probably both. Ben Goldacre at Bad Science has linked to a paper Deconstructing the evidence-based discourse in health sciences: truth, power and fascism by Holmes et al in the International Journal of Evidence-based Healthcare. You can read his entry on it. It won’t fully make a lot of sense without reading the original paper [PDF] (hosted by Professor David Colquhoun), but the paper doesn’t make any sense either. Ophelia Benson has also commented on it (and read the comments on her entry too), which quenches my urge to go “urrrgghhh?” at length. Post-modernism doesn’t (bah! omitted word) automatically mean that a paper is dire, but it’s helpful to remember that it doesn’t mean that it’s automatically good either.
