Segesta Tempio
Segesta temple from the inside
A photo from my trip to Sicily. I thought the photos had been biased towards prehistory and so this makes a nice change. This is Segesta Temple in western Sicily. It looks like a Greek temple. In fact it’s a native temple as Segesta was an Elymian city. There’s been a lot of discussion over whether or not it was intended to leave the roof open. If it was used for Hellenic ritual then you’d expect it to be covered. On the other hand it could just be Greek style being used in a native way. My own view at the moment is that I’ve no idea.
There will be a bias again towards prehistory over the next month for reasons which may become obvious.
