The Perfect Cover Version

Picking up on Sharon Howard’s question, what makes the perfect cover version?

It changes the song. Tricky: Black Steel

It changes the meaning. Happy Mondays: Lazyitis

If the version HAS to be made then it’s the done by the band that should have written the song. The BC-52’s: (Meet) The Flintstones Extra points if you spot the unfortunate mispelling.

The performer feels a special connection with the song. Billy Bragg: Unisex Chip Shop Ok, not exactly a cover version, but I’ve been looking for an excuse to link to it for weeks.

It’s done by the Pet Shop Boys. Go West

Bonus: The band covers themselves and upset the organisers of the Brit Awards: What the Brits thought they were getting: KLF – 3AM Eternal What they got: KLF (and Extreme Noise Terror) – 3AM Eternal
