Things to listen to

Via Early Modern Notes, I hear that Karl Marx won the Philosophy championship organised by Radio 4, despite not knowing when Coventry City won the FA Cup. Personally my vote would have gone to Anaximander for really exciting reasons which I’ll have to remember to write up, but he wasn’t an option. In the end I voted for Socrates, partly for changing the nature of philosophical enquiry, but mainly for his utterly bodacious appearance in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Elsewhere on Radio 4 Geoff Watts on the Leading Edge discusses various scientific breakthroughs, including a way to date human cells inspired by radiocarbon dating.

It’s also a good time for comedy on Radio 4. Just a Minute is back till September. This week Rob Brydon discovers what philology isn’t. Boothby Graffoe is in No Particular Order still for another few weeks. Finally the Now Show is back this week with a wry, sideways, look at the week’s news.
