Three Things Thursday: Publishing, NDQ, and a Sneak Peek

This has been a HECTIC week, but I think the rest of my semester should come into better focus from this point on. This past week I got three things more or less off my plate and it seems like as good a time as any to share them.
Thing the First
This past week my co-author submitted for review an article to the Journal of Field Archaeology’s 50th anniversary issue. If you’ve been following the blog here, you know that I’ve been working on this over the last few weeks. (You can follow links to see most of my work on this article starting with this post).
Since the article discusses the value of open data (among other things) for producing more pluralistic forms of knowledge, it seems only appropriate to share a pre-review daft of the paper here.
Thing the Second
This week, North Dakota Quarterly 91.3/4 has gone off to press!
I wish I could say that this issue went smoothly, but it did not. That said, it will be a really good issue, full of fine writing, and a spectacular photo essay.
I was also really lucky to work with another fine student from the English Department’s Writing, Editing, and Publishing Certificate program who kindly agreed to co-write the “Editors Note” for this issue.
Thing the Third
This is a bit of a sneak peek. As you know, I usually provide sneak peeks of books from The Digital Press at the University of North Dakota as, well, digital books first. After all, most books start their lives in the digital realm and only become paper at the very end of the process.
This week, though, I’m going to offer a paper sneak peek of the next book from the Digital Press. The downside is that it’s going to cost you $15, but I can almost promise you that it’s worth it.
Check out Christopher Neal Price’s Big Pandemic on the Prairie: The Spanish Flu in North Dakota about a week before its official release (in open, digital form!). If you’re lucky and order RIGHT NOW, you might get a very special (and mercifully) limited edition with a misspelling on the back cover!
