Upgrading the site

WordPress 2.3 is imminent. I’ve sorted out more or less how I’m going to tackle it.

I’ll write the new presentation theme to work with the new features in 2.3. One way or another the theme has to change as the site currently works with queries into the database which will be altered by the upgrade. It should look more or less like this one, but with an extra side-column. I’ve decided to use the width available to higher resolution monitors, but I’ll try to keep it 800px friendly.

Once the theme is created I’ll need to go through and re-classify every entry. This will take a while. I have no idea how long it will take to re-jig 1000+ entries. I’d like to get the whole thing finished by the end of the month, but it if it goes badly then I wouldn’t like to commit to which month. I’ll try and do it on a parallel site and then flip some kind of switch.
