Why I like Leicester University

I mentioned UCL’s speed dating programme yesterday. Today was an iScience meeting, and I mentioned that we could rip it off for Leicester. The reaction was universally positive and now we’re seeing how we could do it. It’s one of the attractive things about the various departments in Leicester that when they see a good idea the first reaction is usually “Can we do it and how?” The alternative which I’ve run into is that instead people simply list why it cannot be done, with reason number one being “We’ve never done it before.”

When I move university I won’t want to go to one that brainlessly jumps on every passing bandwagon, but I do want to go to a department where they want to do things better rather than simply do something that’s good enough.
