“I’m not an Armenian singer!” – What strikes you first when you talk to Yerso is her sincerity, a feeling so strong that it brings her to make statements that more than one of her admirers finds shocking. So, if Yerso is not an Armenian singer, who then can claim to be one? According to Yerso, there is no possible compromise, the sorrow is too great, the old wound will never close: so to be an Armenian singer, one must be able to sing on Armenian soil …
Yerso, an artist of immense talent who has not ceased to share her emotions through her voice and her interpretations. Zartong (trans. rebirth) is the vehicle that enabled this great artist to perform a remarkable work, the CD “Zartong”.
At the same time this song is a tribute to victims of earthquake in Armenia that swept several cities. The earth has become a beast and devoured within seconds everything in its path. However, after this ordeal, men, women and children were able to recover and returned to enjoy life with their faith. Precisely, let us remember the poem by William Saroyan. In memory of earthquake victims in 1988.
